W&A Distribution, a local transportation company in business for 33 years, is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our fleet.

Mechanics are responsible for maintaining diesel trucks (class 8) to DOT standards. They perform scheduled maintenance services as well as troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment failures.

Work Schedule:

  • Schedule will require 40-50 hours per week with Saturday mornings required. Flexible weekday hours and schedule (e.g., 4 – 10’s or some other variation).

Position Requirements:

  • Certification from a diesel mechanic program/trade school desired (will consider experience in lieu of education)
  • Duties will be performed in variety of conditions including weather conditions (subject to hot/cold), working around moving vehicles and exposure to noise, dust, and fumes
  • May require lifting/carrying or pushing/pulling of up to 50lbs. frequently or occasionally up to 100lbs.
  • Multi-tasking, problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Must be able to perform work activities such as: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching for sustained periods of time
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDLA preferred)
  • Must have your own hand tools
  • Comfortable using computers – email and record keeping required
  • Fundamental math skills including arithmetic and measurements
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Fluent in English and capable of clear written and verbal communication

At least one year of prior experience required in the following areas:

  • Preventative maintenance and repair of semi-tractors (class 8) and trailers to meet standards set by DOT
  • Ability to inspect and repair engines, brakes, suspension, fuel, air, electrical, HVAC and drivetrain components
  • Ability to diagnose and repair lighting and electrical systems
  • Prior experience with PACCAR and Detroit power plants helpful
  • Knowledge of diagnostic computers and industry-specific software programs
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems with or without assistance
  • Ability to work with large hand tools including electrical, mechanical, and air powered
  • Interpret and understand technical manuals and schematics

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 – $30.00 per hour
